Synthesis and Characterization of Quantum Materials Laboratory

- Welcome to the quantum materials's synthesis and characterizations lab!Quantum materials is a family of functional materials that exhibit peculiar properties due to quantum effects and emergent behaviors. Thanks to the revolutionary advances on nanotechnology, equipmentation, and experimental methodology, the field of quantum materials flourishes with ample opportunities for new breakthroughs. Our lab utilizes state-of-the-art film synthesis techniques, such as molecular beam epitaxy, pulsed laser deposition, and magnetron sputtering, to epitaxially grow high-quality single crystalline thin films, heterostructrures, and superlattices of quantum materials. Then we use nanofabrication methods, e.g. UV-lithography, e-beam lithography, and focused ion beam etc., to fabricate nano- and micron-structures. On the basis of synthesis and fabrication, we combine complementary experimental apparatus to study intriguing quantum effects in quantum materials, e.g. low-temperature electrical and thermal transport, high-through measurement, ionic liquid gating, magneto-optic effect, spin injection, spin pumping and etc. Our goal is to cultivate devices and applications based on quantum materials.
