主讲人/Speaker:
Jun-Wei Luo is the director of the Key Laboratory of Semiconductor Physics and Chip Technology at the Institute of Semiconductors, CAS. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Zhejiang University in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and his Ph.D from the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. From 2007 to 2014, he worked as a postdoc fellow, staff scientist, and then senior scientist at the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). In 2014, he joined the Institute of Semiconductors, CAS, and headed the group of Computational Materials and Devices. His research focuses on studying the semiconductor physics for Post-Moore Silicon-based technologies. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2019.
讲座摘要/Abstract:
Moore’s law is finally approaching the ultimate physical limits since state-of-the-art microprocessors now have transistors that are just 14 nanometres wide in the channel, and the microelectronics industry has entered the post-Moore era. Truly novel physics will be needed to extend it by developing new materials, principles, structures, devices, and novel architectures. Given the success of silicon primarily benefiting from its high-quality native oxide, SiO2, and the existing wide-scale expertise and infrastructure, the complete replacement of silicon is unlikely to happen anytime soon. In this talk, I will present our recent study on the semiconductor physics for Post-Moore Silicon-based technologies, including silicon-based qubits for quantum computing, silicon-based light emitting materials for optoelectronic chips, and overcoming the challenges of contact resistance and ferroelectric ultrathin films for future silicon transistors.
