主持人/Speaker:

An ordinary member of the precious earthlings, who happens to be a geophysicist-turned-exoplanetologist and often wondering in the darkness about the origins and nature of our Earth, its siblings in the Solar System, and its cousins in the cosmos.

Dr. Haiyang Wang has served as an Assistant Professor of Planetary Science at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, since April 2024. Prior to this, he was a Research Scientist in Exoplanets and Habitability at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, from October 2019 to March 2024. He earned his PhD in Astronomy & Astrophysics from the Australian National University between February 2014 and December 2018. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Associate Geoscientist at Baker Hughes Asia Pacific Limited in Shenzhen, China, from 2013 to 2014. He completed his M.E. and B.E. in Geophysics at the China University of Petroleum (Huadong/Beijing) from 2004 to 2012. Additionally, he has been an Editor for Exoplanet News in Bern, Switzerland, since 2022.

摘要/Abstract:

The discovery of the first exoplanet (i.e., a planet beyond our Solar System) in early 1990s revolutionized the field of exoplanetary science. To date, nearly 6000 exoplanets have been discovered and confirmed. These discoveries have reshaped our understanding of planetary diversity in the cosmos. Exoplanetary research has evolved from mere detection to comprehensive characterization, including studies of planetary interiors, atmospheres, and potential habitability.

This talk will highlight the crucial interplays between astrophysics, cosmochemistry, geophysics, and biology as pathways to the next revolution in exoplanet discoveries. I will present an interdisciplinary approach to addressing fundamental questions about the origin and evolution of diverse worlds, particularly focusing on chemical fractionation between stars, protoplanetary disks, and rocky worlds. I will introduce novel theories, supported by cutting-edge and future stellar and exoplanetary observations, aimed at developing a quantitative framework of comparative exoplanetology including the assessment of habitability.
